ANC threatens DA councillor, attacks independent media

DA Free State Provincial Chairperson

DA councillor in the Phumelela Local Municipality, Doreen Wessels, was threatened outside the house of the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Mosebenzi Zwane, by a group of ANC cadres in Warden last week.

The incident occurred after she accompanied an eNCA news team to the area following a statement issued by the DA surrounding concerns about MEC Zwane’s private home built on municipal land.

The mob of ANC supporters also attacked the media crew, destroying camera equipment.

Criminal charges have been laid against the perpetrators.

This thuggish behaviour by Zuma’s ANC in the run-up to the elections have become the norm. Zuma’s ANC no longer care about protecting and advancing democratic rights. Instead of coming forward with answers to the questions surrounding MEC Zwane’s house the ANC decides to intimidate, threaten and attack.

The DA in the Free State will not be threatened. We will continue to conduct our constitutionally-mandated responsibilities of oversight and of holding government accountable to the people without fear of intimidation and violence.
