DA seeks to halt eviction of elderly and disabled from Pretoria home

The DA in Gauteng is urgently seeking to halt the eviction of a number of families from Abany Court, 489 Johannes Ramokhoase (formerly Proes) Street. The families include the elderly, people with disabilities as well as one young man who is in matric.

The owner of the property, where these families have resided for 25 years, has apparently sold it and given the residents until the end of the month to vacate the premises.

The families have nowhere to go and do not have the means to find alternative accommodation.

Repeated attempts to contact the owner or landlord have been unsuccessful.

The DA has approached the Gauteng Social Development Department requesting intervention, and arrangements have been made to accommodate some of the residents in state facilities, but only from the 1st of June.

The DA is appealing to the owner to allow the residents to continue renting on the property until they can be relocated.

Further information and contact details are available on request.
