The DA in Gauteng has written to the Human Rights Commission to investigate the allegation of a ‘racist teacher’ at the National School of Arts. According to the Star Newspaper, the Department is reported to have launched an independent investigation into the matter.

The DA wants the Human Rights Commission and the Department to make the investigation findings public. The DA condemns any form of racial discrimination. This will send a clear message of zero tolerance to racism in our country.

Schools must ensure that they uphold the rule of law. Teachers have a responsibility to educate learners on how to redress the past imbalances perpetuated by the apartheid government. The school environment must be conducive for learning to both learners and teachers. It is our collective responsibility to promote the fundamental constitutional principle of non-racial society.
