Limpopo intervention: DA calls for a debate

Jacques Smalle, MPL

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader

The DA will be writing a letter to the Speaker in the Provincial Legislature requesting for a debate on the five Limpopo government departments currently under administration.

We have noted that there is an intention to uplift the intervention but the DA believes that the matter should be debated in the legislature before the intervention can be ended.

The financial management of these departments has not improved significantly. Last year’s annual reports proved that there is still irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure occurring in those departments.

During their two years tenure, we have witnessed unwillingness by the Limpopo government to accept guidelines set by the intervention teams.

Before the intervention team departs, the DA will seek a comprehensive report to be tabled in the Legislature explaining their intervention outcomes and plans on how it should be carried out by various departments to avoid another crisis.

The DA wants a transparent monitoring of  the supply chain management system. All capital projects must also be headed by skilled and experienced officials.

The team should be able to prove the departments’ abilities to deliver important services to the people of Limpopo.

While still waiting for a debate, the DA will be scrutinising all the department’s reports including annual reports, Auditor General reports, financial and forensic reports.

The intervention must continue until we are completely certain that the departments can get the job done on their own.
