DA retains wards in Mpumalanga by-elections

Anthony Benadie MPL

Provincial Leader – Mpumalanga

The DA in Mpumalanga retained its wards with an overwhelming majority during by-elections held yesterday in the Emalahleni and Govan Mbeki local municipalities.

Both wards (Emalahleni Ward 18 and Govan Mbeki Ward 30) became vacant when former ward councillors Henro Kruger and Tarnia Baker were elected to the National Assembly in the 2014 national and provincial elections.

In Emalahleni, the DA received 91,2% of the vote, up from 85,7% in 2011, and in Govan Mbeki, 92,38% (up from 84,40%), signifying the faith voters have in the DA’s ability to ensure continued quality and decent service delivery to residents.

It is significant to note that the ANC’s support in both wards plummeted by almost 50% in Govan Mbeki and close on to 35% in Emalahleni.

These results once again signify the DA difference that transcends all race and socio economic divides, and that voters feel safe in entrusting their votes to the DA.

We wish both our newly elected ward councillors, Jolandi Breetzke of Emalahleni and Pierre Bosch of Govan Mbeki the greatest of success, and have the fullest confidence in both to continue bringing the DA difference to the communities they were elected to serve.
