Hlanganani Gumbi, MPL
DA KZN Spokesperson on Human Settlements
The DA will today write to KZN Human Settlements MEC, Ravi Pillay, to request that he urgently intervene after a situation on Sunday revealed that housing officials in Msunduzi are sabotaging housing delivery.
On Sunday afternoon I attended a Ward 37 public meeting of the Tamboville community, arranged by local DA ward councillor, Sandy Lyne and DA PR councillor Lungisani Sikhakhane. Councillor Lyne had arranged the meeting in order for housing officials to report back to the community on the NE Sector development, first initiated more than 10 years ago, which for some unknown reason continues to be stalled regardless of budgetary provisions.
Regrettably, not a single Msunduzi housing official pitched up at the meeting. This, despite being invited on numerous, separate occasions.
It is clear that Msunduzi housing officials are deliberately sabotaging Councillor Lyne’s efforts. They also appear intent on penalising the community for voting for a DA councillor.
Sunday’s meeting demonstrated the anger within this community at the constant blocking of information to Councillor Lyne. They were so incensed that they were ready to march to City Hall to express their grievances. After extensive discussions it was concluded that a committee made up of community members would represent the community as a whole and back Councillor Lyne in her quest to bring about delivery to the area.
The DA will continue to monitor the situation at Tamboville
We will not tolerate or allow any officials with hidden agenda’s to sabotage our councillors and the communities they represent.
