NCOP must intervene in Mogalakwena Municipality

Beyers Smit (MP)

Constituency Head of Waterberg and Member of the NCOP

The DA will be writing a letter to the Chairwoman of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) , Thandi Modise in the National Assembly to intervene in the controversial Mogalakwena Municipality.

The debacle in the municipality has halted the services due to the factionalism. The Limpopo government has been ignoring the mayhem in the municipality that has led to some whistleblowers being victimised and killed.

It is clear that Premier Stanley Mathabatha and his cabinet are running out of ideas on how to avert the calamity and opted to keep mum about the issue. The established hit squad is a clear indication that the municipality has been turned into a playing ground to settle personal vendettas.

It is alleged that the people behind the hit squad want to stop any disciplinary cases against them and get rid of any stumbling blocks on laying their hands on the municipal funds.

The DA councillor, Marcelle Maritz and others are being fingered and targeted for uncovering corruption in the municipality. The DA will not be intimidated by any group of folks for uncovering and being vocal against any corrupt activities in either government or at the local level.
We want the NCOP to establish a task team that will probe what is going on in this municipality with immediate effect before things get worse.
