DA calls for calm at NIHE

The Democratic Alliance calls for calm to be restored at NIHE’s Galeshewe campus. We urge students to return to their classes and to allow those at the Sol Plaatje University to continue with their classes. We ask that the student leaders refrain from violence and vandalism, as neither will address the concerns that the students are raising.

It seems that miscommunication and a lack of consultation lies at the root of the trouble. We call on NIHE to ensure that students are kept adequately informed of decisions that affect them. It is understood that the concerns raised by students will be addressed at the board meeting scheduled for 29 August 2014. Perhaps this meeting could be brought forward and the concerns dealt with urgently, so that the situation can be normalised.
