DA Mpumalanga: Motion without notice on Health

Jane Sithole MPL

Provincial Spokesperson on Health

Note: Motion without notice by Jane Sithole MPL, Spokesperson for the Department of Health in the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature on 12 August 2014.

Honourable speaker

I rise to move a motion without notice, that this house commemorates Patricia de Lille and the city of Cape Town for the outstanding results achieved in the Health sector.

Noting that, due to the public – private partnership between The City of Cape Town and Doctors without Borders, Khayelitsha Site C Youth Clinic is regarded as the best practice model by other national entities. The clinic makes use of HIV support clubs and other innovations to ensure that young people can obtain state of the art treatment, care and follow-ups with regards to HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Further noting that, the city spends R850m on the provision of primary health care, of which R122.3m is allocated to clinics in Khayelitsha alone.

Mpumalanga can definitely benefit from following in the steps of this DA run metro with regards to running our Health Department and clinics.

I move that this house:

–        Sends a task team to the Khayelitsha Site C Youth Clinic to observe how public – private partnerships are assisting the people of Khayelithsa.

–        Congratulates Mayor Patricia de Lille and the City of Cape Town for the achievement in assisting thousands of youth to be able to know and deal with their status.
