I visited the New Natalspruit Hospital in Vosloorus today which was a hive of activity as about 400 patients were ferried there in busses and ambulances from the old Natalspruit Hospital.
It was a massive logistical exercise which included transport of some critically ill patients and also babies in incubators.
The staff I spoke to were all very positive about the move and proud that they had accomplished so much in one day.
I welcome the opening of this new hospital which replaces a really decrepit old hospital which was in danger of falling down a sinkhole.
I hope that any teething problems are sorted out rapidly as this new 771-bed hospital with all-new equipment is needed for the residents of the area.
This hospital was originally planned to open in March 2009, so it is a huge relief that it is finally open for new patients.
