Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, MPP and Albert Fritz, MPP
Western Cape Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Sport
Today, 18 August 2014, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo and Minister of Social Development, Mr Albert Fritz will visit the Cornflower Primary School MOD centre in Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain.
The two ministers will be conducting this oversight visit in order to ensure that the 181 MOD centres which have been established across the Western Cape are indeed providing a safe place where learners can play sport, participate in cultural activities and study after school hours.
The MOD centres are one of the Western Cape Government’s flagship projects.
In some of our high-risk communities, this after-school programme offers a safe place for learners, well trained and accredited coaches for the different sport codes and a daily meal serving component funded by the Department of Social Development in collaboration with DCAS.
Together, Minister Mbombo and Minister Fritz will be taking a tour around the school facilities, speaking to some of our learners and sport coaches about their experiences and will assist with serving lunch to the learners.
