Through the efforts of the DA in the Gauteng Legislature, commuters who make use of the notorious Easton road and Golden Highway intersection in Evaton will now benefit from much needed traffic calming and pedestrian protection measures.

MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, indicated in a written reply that after the issue was brought to the attention of the department by the DA, engineers were sent on a site visit to assess the needs and feasibility of implementing such measures. As a result, recommendations were made that steps be put in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists at this intersection.

Within the next thirty days, interim pedestrian protection measures will be implemented while engineers carry out feasibility studies to assess the best possible traffic calming and pedestrian protection methods.

The DA welcomes the MEC’s swift action and will continue to make submissions of other roads in the province that require similar attention.
