Gauteng Education Department attempts to bury Brakpan SGB forensic report

DA Shadow MEC for Education

In response to DA written questions regarding the dissolution of the Brakpan High School Governing Body, Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, has refused to allow the DA to make his reply public.

Members of the provincial legislature have a responsibility to exercise oversight in their various portfolios and this includes tabling both oral and written questions to respective executive members.

Information and responses stemming from these replies are constitutionally mandated to be made available to the public.

The fact that the information contained in the report is damning is not an excuse to hide this from the public or protect those implicated from being held to account.

The DA will be writing to Gauteng Integrity Commissioner, Dr Ralph Mgijima, to investigate this gross violation of executive accountability.

Neither the MEC nor the ANC can decide what information should be made public and the DA will continue in its constitutional responsibility to hold those in government to account.
