Molemole Local Municipality is at it again, defying the law and placing last, the needs of its people in it’s to do list. The DA has discovered that the troubled and mismanaged municipality has been selling and demarcating land that has since been claimed in the Dendron area.

This has been happening without notifying the land claims commissioner within a period of one month as required by section 10 of the Restitution of land rights act no.22 of 1994.

The LS Dutchland 169 in Dendron is under claim by Ga-Mabohlatjana Community but the municipality has gone to an extent of selling part of the land and also transferred some parts of the land to its name to develop a park while the said community awaits the completion of the claim.

Documents in possession of the DA includes a government Gazzete Notice 2229 of 2001 which says “Notice hereby given in terms of section 11 (1) of the Restitution of land rights act no.22 of 1994, as amended that a claim for the restitution of Land Rights has been lodged on the remaining extent and a portion 2 of the farm Dutchland 169 LS in the Magisterial District of Pietersburg in the Northern Province.”

Defying and noncompliance to this act is a clear indication that the people’s rights and needs are not considered in this ANC misguided government. Its recent court battles with service providers attest to this.

DA calls for a land audit and full investigation into the matter and MEC of COGHSTA must intervene to save the dignity of our people in this regard. The municipality is supposed to be delivering services and not depriving communities from what they rightfully deserve. DA will also inform the commissioner of the violation of the Restitution of land rights act no.22 of 1994 for necessary steps to be taken.
