Jacques Smalle (MPL)
DA Limpopo Provincial Leader
The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo will approach the courts if need be to be able to access the 2013\14 Auditor General Management Report of the department of education which is being withheld by the provincial department.
This follows the department’s refusal to release the report which is allegedly far too shocking to be seen by anyone but the ruling party and its cadres.
According to few pages leaked and seen by the DA, the 800 page document contains financial scandals amounting to more than R9bn in salary discrepancies, performance bonuses, unauthorised and irregular expenditure, liabilities and about 74% of departmental services commitments not being met.
In numerous attempts to access the report, the DA wrote to all relevant stakeholders and authorities including the portfolio committee, chairperson, speaker and deputy speaker of the legislature, HOD and MEC for education without any luck.
To this end, the DA through its provincial leader has resorted to apply for the report in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA)as contemplated in section 32(2) of the constitution, in demand of the said audit report.
This document is also alleged to be pointing fingers to some ANC big shots that benefited unduly from these irregularities.
