Shadow MEC for Education
The Democratic Alliance would like to wish all the Matrics of 2014 in the Eastern Cape well as they embark on their final exams which begin in a few days. We wish them success and believe that they will represent the Eastern Cape well.
There have been numerous demotivating situations that some of these pupils have been faced with this year, including:
- Those that have had severe teacher shortages within their schools which often meant that many classrooms were overcrowded;
- Unpleasant learning environments which included dilapidated school buildings with little to no school furniture (desks, chairs etc.);
- A shortage of classrooms in some schools which resulted in two or three subjects being taught in one classroom concurrently.
Despite all of the dispiriting conditions under which some of our pupils have had to study this year, we believe and trust in their abilities to achieve outstanding results nonetheless.
We commend all of our educators in the Eastern Cape for their hard work and dedication to our learners, this has not gone unnoticed.
With 11 days left until their final examinations, we urge the grade 12 class of 2014 to work hard, burn the midnight oil and make their parents/guardians proud. We believe in you.
