DA KZN:  Something doesn’t gel in Richmond

George Mari, MPL

DA KZN Spokesperson on COGTA

The DA in KwaZulu-Natal is concerned by recent strike action by South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) members in Richmond just days after the A-G announced that the town had achieved yet another clean audit.

The protest took place over an alleged lack of basic service delivery and amid calls for the resignation of Mayor, Andrew Ragavaloo and four local councillors.

Clearly, while Richmond may be in the A-G’s good books, the municipality is failing the people.

Audit opinions are a very necessary oversight tool.  The danger is that they do not tell a human story.  Instead they are a reflection of the financial accounting within a municipality bound my certain limitations.

Between the A-G’s glowing report and the frustration of the people of Richmond, something does not gel.

The DA will submit a detailed parliamentary question to KZN COGTA MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube to establish what she and her department plan to do about these simmering tensions.
