Gauteng COGTA MEC takes child’s death lightly

Gauteng Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Jacob Mamabolo could not have been more insensitive when asked to explain the lack of emergency rescue services around the death of five-year-old Sebokeng toddler, Sibusiso Ndaba.

Little Sibusiso died tragically after falling into a manhole last month,  while rescuers failed to arrive within 24 hours of being alerted to the tragedy.

Today the DA specifically asked the MEC why rescue teams did not arrive after the incident was reported,  why the Emfuleni municipality did not respond and whether the MEC would launch an investigation into the tragedy?

All the MEC did was request a report from the municipality into the matter.

MEC Mamabolo should show more respect for young Sibusiso’s family, and launch an investigation into Emfuleni’s emergency response capabilities.

The loss of innocent lives cannot be tolerated, and the MEC’s casual dismissal of a tragedy shows his complete disregard for little Sibusiso’s family.

The DA will not let this matter rest, and will continue to request the report from the MEC until he hands it over.
