Jacques Smalle (MPL)
DA Limpopo Provincial Leader
The DA will be approaching MEC for Cooperate Governance, Makoma Makhurupetsa, to urgently take action against the Municipal Manager (MM), Refiloe Ramothwala and other senior officials for blocking investigations against financial misconduct within the municipality.
It is alleged that Ramothwala and his cronies have called several municipal officials and intimidated them for blowing the whistle regarding the corrupt activities and tender irregularities happening in the municipality.
The DA has laid charges with the Public Protector after the municipality paid close to R1 million to two companies that were not registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) to repair municipal sewerage pipes and pumps.
It is alleged that these companies have been doing business with the municipality and getting tenders without following the correct procedures.
Few days after being contacted by the office of the Public Protector, MM and his cronies summoned many municipal officials and threatens to fire them if they don’t reveal the whistle blowers.
This is a clear indication that MM and his pals are trying to hide and block the investigations by intimidating municipal officials.
The DA wants MEC Makhurupetsa to intervene by ensuring the MM stops his tricks and allow investigations to proceed without any disturbance.
