DA KZN: A step in the right direction at Thabela High School

Mbali Ntuli, MPL

DA KZN Spokesperson Education:

The DA in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the extension of contracts for temporary educators at Thabela High School in KwaNyuswa.

According to media reports, contracts have been extended for another month while the department engages with all stakeholders in search of a lasting solution.

The DA is pleased that learning and teaching will proceed at this school without any further disruption.

This is a victory for the KwaNyuswa community and the DA.

In recent weeks, the DA was invited to attend a meeting with school representatives.  They claimed that despite two years of trying to get KZN’s Education department to deal with serious problems at the school, no help had been forthcoming.

Temporary teachers were employed at the school as replacements of those suspended following accusations of corruption.  These allegations included not teaching for a year while still receiving salaries.

The DA will closely monitor future developments at Thabela High School.

We will continue to pressure KZN Education MEC, Peggy Nkonyeni into finalising the investigation at this school and expect her to take firm action against those found guilty of improper conduct.
