DA to lay charges against Education MEC after visit to KZN’s worst school

TOMORROW, Tuesday 27 January, DA KZN Leader, Sizwe Mchunu MPL,  Zululand East Constituency Leader, Hlanganani Gumbi, MPL and DA KZN Education Spokesperson, Mbali Ntuli, MPL will visit what we believe is KZN’s worst school.

Circumstances at eMlokothwa High School in KwaNongoma have to be seen to be believed.

Learners at this school which is almost 100% boarding are expected to learn and live in the most disgusting and inhumane conditions.  Meanwhile school management does not appear to be the least bit concerned.

Tomorrow’s programme will include a school walkabout followed by a visit to the local police station where the DA will lay charges against KZN Education MEC, Peggy Nkonyeni.

We will do so in terms of the South African Childrens’ Act Chapter 3 Section 30 and on the basis that the MEC is ultimately responsible for the functionality of all KZN schools.

Details for tomorrow’s visit are as follows:

Date:                           Tuesday, 27 January 2015

Time:                          8am

Venue:                        DA Provincial Office, Suite 4 & 5 Fairways Piazza, 13-15 Fairways Avenue, Mount Edgecombe.

The DA will provide transport to and from the school for journalists who would like to attend.  We anticipate being back in Durban at approximately 4pm.
