Municipality pays councillor who never pitched for work

Charles Keetse

DA councillor at Blouberg local municipality:

The DA will be writing a letter to the MEC for Public Works, Jerry Ndou, urging him to instruct, Sammy Selamolela who is currently earning two salaries simultaneously from the taxpayers’ purse, to pay back the money.

According to reports, Mr Selamalola is currently an Acting General Manager for Facility and Property in the department but he was inaugurated on the 12th December 2014, as the Chairperson for the special focus as well as a member of the executive committee at Blouberg Municipality.

Since he was inaugurated, he has never reported for duty and missed several council meetings despite being paid a salary of R16 300 for two months by the municipality.

Selamolela’s absenteeism is compounded by the fact that he has a full time job at Public Works and opted to disregard the municipal duties.

He is also employed in the municipality, a pure example of ANC’s cadre deployment that is delaying basic services to our people.

The DA is urging MEC Ndou to urgently intervene on the matter by suspending him for breaching the contract that he has with the department.

We will further submit a motion in the next council meeting seeking for the decision for his appointment to be reversed and payback the money as a matter of urgency.
