DA Western Cape Spokesperson for Community Development:
On 3 February 2015, the Western Cape Department of Social Development briefed the Standing Committee on Community Development on the youth development programmes rolled out during the 2013/14 financial year.
The presentation highlighted services, opportunities and support that are enablers for growth in order to improve the quality of life of young people in the Western Cape. The youth development programmes funded by the department also provide soft and hard skills training programmes, focussing on personal development, job preparedness and relevant market related skills.
Although the demand outweighs the available resources, the DA welcomes the total expenditure of approximately R8.1 million to youth development programmes during the 2013/14 financial year. Aligned to creating an open opportunity society for all, we are pleased that youth development programmes are provided across the provinces, in all regions.
The geographic spread of these youth development programmes are illustrated in the table below:
The DA commends the Western Cape Department of Social Development for delivering qualitative services to the youth of our province. “We cannot build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” – Franklin Roosevelt.
