DA Limpopo Provincial Leader:

The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo welcomes an investigation into the principal of Matupakgomo Primary School in Tzaneen, Prisca Lathane, for abusing school funds. While the investigation will be conducted by the Limpopo Education Department, the DA expects that it will be thorough.

It is alleged that Lathane used school funding to purchase a TV set, play swings and a chair for herself at a cost of R8,000.00, while her learners are forced to share old desks.

The DA also questions the whereabouts of a R48,000.00 donation to the school from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, and calls for this to be included in the investigation.

It is unacceptable that a school principal can buy lavish furniture for herself while learners don’t have desks.

If it is found that the principal is abusing her powers and misusing school funds for personal gains, disciplinary action must follow.

The DA will monitor this investigation to see that the truth is arrived at, and that disciplinary steps follow for any wrongdoing.
