Gauteng’s first open tender a step in the right direction

Mike Moriarty MPL

DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Finance:

The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng applauds the MEC for Finance, Barbara Creecy, and Roads and Transport MEC, Ismail Vadi, for making public the tender information pertaining to the R500 million upgrade of Cedar Road.

As promised, the names of the bidders as well as time frames for the Bid Evaluation Committee (BEC) and Bid Adjudication Committee (BAC) have been made public on the Department of Roads and Transport’s website.

This open tender process should safeguard from collusion by officials and companies who seek to enrich themselves at the tax payer’s expense.

However, it is of concern to note that the names of the members of the BEC and BAC have not been made public.

It is of the upmost importance that these panel members are known to the public, before their respective committee’s sit, so as to ensure that this process is truly free and “open”.

The DA will lobby for future provincial tenders to be advertised on a single website which covers all provincial departments.

We will continue monitor the manner in which this tender and others to follow are administered.
