DA councillor at Tubatse Local Municipality:
The DA is urging MEC for Cooperate Governance, Makoma Makhurupetje, to suspend Tubatse Municipality’s Acting Director of Corporate Services, Jacob Motha for covering up his criminal record when applying for the job.
It is alleged that Motha was sentenced to five years imprisonment but served only 18 months at Witbank Correctional Service for fraud and forgery he committed while still working as a public prosecutor in Midddleburg in 2007.
It is further alleged that Motha, who is also an ANC branch secretary used his political connections to prevent his criminal records from being captured at the National Criminal Records Centre in Pretoria before getting the job.
The municipality was not aware about his criminal record and the panel who interviewed him did not bother to check the applicant’s criminal record before he could be considered for a position in the public sector, as required by the department of service and administration regulations.
We believe that this official must be suspended with immediate effect for covering up his conviction. The DA will be writing a letter to the Municipal Manager, Michael Moja, to probe the matter and reverse the decision of appointing him.
The DA demand MEC Makhurupetje to intervene by ensuring that appropriate measures are taken to address this issue.
