SASSA collapsed grant office must be investigated

Jacques Smalle MPL

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader:

The two year delay in fixing the collapsed (Click here) SASSA premises in Mohlabaneng village, Limpopo is unacceptable and must be investigated.

The DA has today written to the MEC of Social Development , Joyce Mashamba to urgently investigate and escalate this issue to SASSA nationally.

Lives of those working in the office are at risk from damaged building elements (click here) that threaten to collapse on them as they do their work.

The R430m building which was damaged by stormy weather in August 2013 continues to be the only place where the poorest of the poor can access their social grants.

The DA exposed the plight of Mohlabaneng community and made several calls to government and the department of Social Development in particular but all met with deaf ears.

Since then, nothing has been done. The ANC government in Limpopo, and the powers that be at SASSA have given up on the staff and people of the Mohlabaneng grant office.

Also, the DA continues to call for the Social Development Head of Department in Limpopo to do the honorable thing and step down for this dismal failure.

We trust that the MEC will undertake this enquiry and take action against those responsible for an unnecessary delay that threatens life and limb.
