Schools owe municipalities millions

Jacques Smalle MPL

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader:

The Democratic Alliance in Limpopo has written to the department of Education in request for a meeting to address amongst others, schools that struggle to pay municipal services.

It has come to the attention of the DA that some schools are struggling to pay municipal service which cost up to a shocking R1 688 662.33 (Click here).

The department of education in Limpopo must look at supporting our schools by means of restructuring its payment models.

The DA blames these shocking bills in schools on the department for setting low standard on norms and standards funding. Limpopo pays schools half of what national government subsidises.

The department has to consider cross subsidising, norms and standards.

We has already written urgent questions to the department of education to find out what plans have been put in place to resolve this kind of problems.

The DA will monitor the implementation of the plans to ensure that nothing crosses the road to learning and teaching in our schools.
