CoGHSTA MEC must probe Tubatse Disaster management

Jacques Smalle (MPL)

DA Limpopo Provincial Leader:

On March 15, the Apiesdoring community was hit by a devastating storm (click-here) that left numerous people injured and had to be rushed to hospital.

The aftermath of the storm shocked the DA when we discovered that a disaster management vehicle (click-here) stationed at the Greater Tubatse Municipality, delivered food parcels (click-here) to a house (click-here) undamaged by the storm and not situated in the informal settlement of Apiesdoring.

Today I have written to MEC for CoGHSTA Makoma Makhurupetje, demanding an investigation into food parcels (click-here) allocated to the Apiesdoring and nearby communities.

It is in the public interest for GTM to disclose what the costs are of the support given to the disaster victims, disclosure of the beneficiary register, and the content of the parcels handed out.

The DA will also submit legislature questions to MEC Makhurupetje, to seek clarity on the procedures followed when identifying disaster victims.
