DA launches community safety and security campaign in Port Alfred

Andrew Whitfield, MP,

Constituency leader:

On Saturday (subs: 7 March) DA Member of Parliament, Andrew Whitfield, DA Councillors and DA Youth members in Port Alfred launched a community safety and security campaign aimed at raising awareness of crime in our communities.

A key feature of this ongoing campaign will be the distribution of ‘Community Care Cards‘ to residents across Ndlambe Municipality throughout the year. This card lists the key phone numbers of key security and safety personnel in Ndlambe and can be kept on ones person at all times.

The campaign will be led by Cllr Khanyisa Daweti.

Cllr Daweti will champion safety and security in all communities by addressing, among others:

  • education and awareness;
  • poor lighting along pedestrian walkways;
  • overgrown bushes along pedestrian walkways;
  • engaging SAPS on the frequency of patrols; and
  • regular meetings with the public and key stakeholders.

DA Councillors are regularly contacted by members of the community who are directly and indirectly affected by crime. We are an organisation that cares about the safety and security of all South Africans and this campaign seeks to ensure that citizens are well informed and communities are safe.

Crime affects all of us and we must stand together to fight crime for safer communities.

The DA will work together with the communities and the municipality to tackle the scourge of crime that affects so many people.
