Msukaligwa municipality held to ransom by employees

Stephan Greyling:

DA councillor in Msukaligwa local municipality:

Some parts of Ermelo in Msukaligwa local municipality, have been left without electricity since 5pm on Wednesday 18 March 2015, allegedly after a sabotage by municipal employees.

The event also caused the water supply to dry up in various parts of the town.

The Democratic Alliance has reliable learned that the disruptions were caused by disgruntled employees who were not paid for overtime work.

The action of these employees is criminal and they should be arrested on charges of malicious damage to property and sabotage.

The DA will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the guilty individuals be brought to book. We will also table a motion at the next council that the matter be investigated and that those found guilty should face appropriate sanction, not excluding their forfeiting of any overtime due to them.

The party will write to the MEC for COGTA Refilwe Mtshweni asking her to immediately intervene to have the electricity and water supply restored and to assist the municipality with investigations.
