On Friday, 27 February 2015, the Democratic Alliance will embark on a One Teacher One Classroom organised march to the offices of the Department of Education led by DA provincial leader Athol Trollip MPL, Shadow MEC of Education, Edmund van Vuuren MPL, and Nosimo Balindlela MP.
This will culminate with a petition handover, consisting of thousands of signatures harvested since the campaign began last year. This campaign highlighted the serious lack of teachers in the Eastern Cape which has led to parents closing the schools that their children attend. The Democratic Alliance Eastern Cape demand that EVERY child in our province must enjoy their constitutional right to a basic education.
Edmund van Vuuren will lead the handover at to the acting superintendent-general, Ray Tywakadi, at the Department of Education offices in Zwelitsha Zone 6.
The march will commence at 10h30 from the public open space across the Zwelitsha Police Station in Zwelitsha Road.
The route is as follows:
Proceed straight up Zwelitsha Rd, pass Zwelitsha Community Hall, Police Station, old Petrol Station, proceed up a steep incline until you come to the four way stop. At the four way stop proceed straight across, take right turn and down an incline for 200m. The Department of Education in the Steve Vukile Tshwete Building is on the left.
