DA call for urgent debate on KZN government’s response to xenophobic attacks

By: Mark Steele, MPL Chief Whip to the DA in the KZN Legislature THE DA has today written to KZN Legislature Speaker, Lydia Johnson, requesting an urgent debate on how the ANC-led provincial government has handled the issue of xenophobia. This follows numerous recent incidents of violence, looting and public disorder involving South African citizens and foreign nationals in the province. The DA’s request has been made in terms of Rule 99, which allows for an issue to be debated as a matter of urgent public importance. We have requested that the matter be discussed on the next available sitting day. The DA expects the Speaker to respond to this formal request with the appropriate urgency.
