DA welcomes N-Cape budget presentation from Sport, Arts & Culture

By: Safiyia Stanfley, MPL DA Provincial Spokesperson on Sport, Arts & Culture The Democratic Alliance welcomes the budget presentation that was tabled today by the department of Sport, Arts & Culture. We hope that the department’s achievements will ultimately be shared by communities on grassroots levels. We are excited by the department’s commitment to building libraries. A culture of reading is essential to the growth and development of our nation. If we have parents who read, we have children who read. We welcome the establishment of book clubs, including the interdepartmental book clubs which can promote a culture of learning in the public institutions. A healthy lifestyle is as important as a culture of reading and we welcome the 25 community projects that will get people involved in sports. We understand that the department has its capacity constraints and did not receive the R5 million it hoped for to improve school sport. Parents have raised very vocal concerns on the implementation of the school sport programmes. We need to see a commitment from both the department of Sport and the department of Education to make school sport work for our children.
