FW: Ellias Motsoaledi Municipality paying idle workers: DA calls for probe

By: Jacques Smalle MPL DA Limpopo Provincial Leader The DA has written to Limpopo CoGHSTA MEC Makoma Makhurupetje requesting that she launches an investigation into how 34 Community Work Programme (CWP) employees have been paid four months stipend, while not doing a day’s work. The group of 34 are unable to work, because they have been given no tools or implements. The 34 were appointed by National Government’s Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and stationed at the Ellias Motsoaledi Local Municipality. The DA understands that these employees have been reporting for duty twice a week for the last four months while drawing a salary for doing no work. The Municipality has done nothing but blame National Government, rather than solving the problem. It is incumbent on all spheres of government to protect state resources and to protect state funds. The Municipality should have immediately ended this wasteful expenditure, or should have helped to get the paid workers working. The MEC must probe this failure by Ellias Motsoaledi Municipality, who cannot throw their hands up in ignorance as state money is wasted under their noses.
