Tomorrow, 31 March 2015, DA Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane MP will conduct an oversight inspection of the sites, in the Amathole District Municipality, of a R631 million tender to build 66 000 toilets awarded to the politically connected Siyenza Group.
The Siyenza Group has been linked to President Jacob Zuma, ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe and Small Business Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu.
Maimane will be joined by DA Eastern Cape Leader, Athol Trollip MPL, DA Shadow Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nosimo Balindlela MP, DA Shadow MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dorah Matikinca MPL, and DA Shadow MEC for Economic Development, Ross Purdon MPL.
The Office of the Public Protector has stated that it will be investigating Amathole’s dealings with Siyenza. This follows a complaint filed by the DA regarding irregularities in the tender process and payments to Siyenza for toilets that were never built.
