WC SAPS Commissioner charged: People’s Safety our main concern

By: Mireille Wenger, MPP DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Community Safety This morning’s media reports that the Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner and 5 other senior SAPS officers have been charged with corruption and fraud, amongst other charges, is cause for grave concern. It is reported that General Lamoer and others will appear in court during the course of today. The legal processes must continue and due process followed, as no one is above the law. The main concern now is to ensure that these allegations and disruptions at senior management level will not affect policing on the ground. The main responsibility is towards the people of the Western Cape and keeping them safe. The National Commissioner must reassure the public that there will be management continuity and that every possible measure will be employed to ensure that policing will not be affected.
