Cabinet Reshuffle: Ace scraping the bottom of the barrel

By Roy Jankielsohn, Leader of the Official Opposition in the Free State Provincial Legislature:

The appointment of Dora Kotzee to the provincial Executive Council in the capacity of MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure proves that Premier Ace Magashule is scraping the bottom of the barrel. Ace Magashule has clearly depleted his factional pool of cadres who could possibly fill the post of MEC.

The behaviour of Dora Kotzee so far in the Legislature has fallen short of an individual with the necessary finesse and leadership skills required from an MEC. She has also not made any positive contributions to strengthen the legislature during her term as Deputy Chief Whip.

The DA is concerned that MEC Mosebenzi Zwane has again been posted to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development since under his previous tenure that the controversial Vrede Dairy Project was initiated. We expect that he has been posted back here to continue with the Free State Government’s persistent cover-up of the project.

We hope that MEC Sam Mashinini will realise the importance of his new portfolio by prioritising the creation of economic opportunities for the people of the Free State. MEC Mashinini has been one of the more dedicated MECs.

Ace Magashule’s administration so far has been a political merry-go-round of patronage for factional cadre redeployment.

The Free State faces crises in public healthcare, education, infrastructure, municipal debt and bankruptcy, high unemployment and a stagnant economic growth which requires competent, skilled and dedicated individuals in government to address these problems.

The DA is the only party with the individuals, the policies and the political will to successfully address the problems facing the Free State and the country.
