DA Councillor wins international award

The DA congratulates Christine du Preez, DA ward councillor in Maruleng Municipality, for achieving the International Community Worker’s award during the prestigious Women4Africa Awards ceremony held in the United Kingdom over the weekend.

International recognition for her work as  Director of Hoedspruit Training Trust (Hlokomela Project)  that tackles HIV victimization through peer education, raising awareness, prevention and treatment is indicative that Cllr du Preez lives the DA’ S Value Charter. Through her achievement Cllr. Christine has set a clear example of the DA values pertaining to excellent education and health care for all citizens.

The Hlokomela HIV and AIDS educational and treatment programme is targeting workers, including foreign migrants, in the agriculture, nature conservation and tourism sectors in Hoedspruit, Limpopo and in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

Since the establishment of this project, Cllr du Preez collected personal accolades such as:

  • A finalist for the individual category “The Southern Africa Trust, and Mail and Guardian 2008 Drivers of change-Investing In the future”
  • SA’s Most Influential Women in Civil Society Organisations & Relates Services (2013).
  • PPS Professional Women of the Year 2014

As we prepare for the upcoming Local Government Elections in 2016, the DA will demonstrate our Values Charter to South Africa and will highlight individual members like Cllr du Preez who embodies our values in their daily lives.
