DA marches for baby immunisation and to protect freedom of choice

By Celeste Barker MPL, DA Shadow MEC for Health:

Today, 25 May 2015, the DA will be marching to the district offices of the Department of Health in Port Elizabeth, led by  Athol Trollip MPL (DA Federal Chairperson and Eastern Cape Provincial Leader) and Celeste Barker MPL  (DA Shadow MEC for Health).

Lee Anne Aylward, a Mom who takes her baby to a private clinic, will tell us why she does so and a picket will be held in Conynham Road opposite the District Offices of the DOH because of the life threatening DOH decision to stop supplying baby Immunisation meds to private clinics. Working moms have written to us to say that if they cannot choose where to go their babies will not be immunised.  Basically for them the choice is to immunise and lose a job or not to immunise and keep a job.

Because we aim to govern the Metro in 2016 and because the health of every single baby, regardless of her/his circumstances of birth, matters to us the DA will offer constructive solutions to this crisis in a bid to prevent an epidemic of Measles, Mumps or Rubella in the Metro.

Date:  Monday, 25 May 2015
Time:  Gather at 09:00 at the Old Grey Sports grounds (2 Lennox Street, Glendinningvale, Port Elizabeth) to prepare to march to Conyngham Road at 09:30.
