By Andrew Louw, MPL, DA Provincial Leader:
The Democratic Alliance in the Northern Cape is ready for the federal congress. Our provincial team is busy finalising the last of the logistics and we are looking forward to a peaceful, democratic congress.
All in all, 86 delegates will represent the Northern Cape at congress.
We are taking 24 councillors, the 7 members of the provincial legislature, the 5 members representing the Northern Cape in parliament and 50 branch members from the different constituencies. We are not bringing any observers, as space at the venue is limited.
It will be the democratic right of each delegate to support his or her chosen candidate for the leadership positions being contested. Every delegate has the right to support a favourite. Once the ballots have been counted, we will unite around our chosen leaders.
We are also looking forward to finalising the party’s policy position on fracking. The economic benefits and potential environmental harm is an issue that is hotly debated in the province.
