By Bosman Grobler MPL:
The following motion was delivered in the legislature today (on the 19th of May 2015) by the DA’s Bosman Grobler MPL during questions for oral reply to the Premier.
Hon Speaker, I rise to move a motion without notice on behalf of the Democratic Alliance.
On the weekend of the 8th and 9th of May, the DA held its Federal Congress in the strategic municipality of Nelson Mandela Bay.
At this historic event, the DA had internal elections which were earmarked by vigorous campaigns and robust debates. The internal elections were earmarked by characteristics true democracy speaks off.
A new federal leadership was elected and Mmusi Maimane now leads a united party focused on bringing change in South Africa.
The Democratic Alliance also adopted a new vision of creating a society characterised by freedom, fairness and opportunity. This is a South Africa in which each individual can reach his or her own potential.
I move that:
This house congratulates the Democratic Alliance on hosting a successful and peaceful congress, branded by robust internal elections and healthy debates in the spirit of democracy, without any disputes.
Further that this house congratulates Mmusi Maimane on his election as leader of the official opposition and wish him the best in shaping South Africas’ future into a society of freedom, fairness and opportunity.
I so move.
