The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) informed the Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works that it has awarded contracts to the value of R2 900 744 772 to B-BBEE companies.
During the 2014/15 financial year, the WC DTPW awarded 410 contracts to companies who availed themselves as suppliers to the department. The total value of the contracts awarded is R3 093 309 886. Of these, 368 contracts were awarded to companies that are compliant with the legislative requirements for broad-based black economic empowerment.
This is an incentive for inclusion. Public-private sector partnerships are essential in growth and development. It opens opportunities by broadening effective participation, through skills development, job creation and entrepreneurship development.
