Budget vote speeches: Agriculture and Rural Development

The following speeches were delivered in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature today by the DA’s Spokesperson for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ina Cilliers MPL, and Spokesperson for Agriculture and Rural Development, Janho Engelbrecht MPL , during the 2015/16 Annual Budget Debate on Agriculture and Rural Development.

Ina Cilliers MPL
DA Gauteng Woordvoerder vir Landbou en Landelike Ontwikkeling

“Grondkwessie word slegs opgelos met haalbare beplanning”

Hoogtepunte:

Speech by

Janho Engelbrecht MPL
DA Gauteng Spokesperson for Economic Development, Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs

“Department’s wild west approach destroys Gauteng’s wildlife”

  • At a recent portfolio meeting the MEC was asked – confirmed that the Minister handed the AMD program to local government. Coincidentally, in Carletonville a giant sinkhole appeared because local government didn’t perform maintenance on water infrastructure, the responsible local government.
  • We are losing the battle against water pollution.
  • The reason for the sad state of water affairs in the province can only be attributed to poor waste water management.
  • I find it difficult to motivate for a department to receive a bigger budget allocation, when on a visit to an Agri-Park, I see rows of unused agricultural implements rusting away unused, seeds being delivered after the planting season.
  • This administration’s plans of re-industrialisation will forever remain a pipe dream.
