Lennit Max MPP

DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Transport and Public Works

“ANC is a threat to our constitutional democracy.”

Statement highlights:

  • In case after case we see that the ANC is flouting the rule of law in favour of its own leaders and now also international criminal leaders.
  • We now see one of the founding parties of our constitutional democracy, constantly attacking the constitution.
  • The ANC is putting our country on a dangerous road from the rule of law and a constitutional law, to an authoritarian state ruled by a political elite.

“The ANC needs to start dealing with its own racism.”

Statement highlights:

  • ANC deliberately tries to mislead the people of the Western Cape with unfounded accusations of racism.
  • It is completely racist when the ANC insults black and coloured DA supporters as supposed puppets of the whites
  • The truth is that the DA is South Africa’s most diverse political party.

“Each month, amounts ranging between R30 – R300 are deducted from their SASSA grants, given that they even receive them.”

Statement highlights:

  • The poor administration of social grants by SASSA, and the spate of illegal deductions from pensions, has seen many South Africans suffer.
  • After I engaged with Honourable Fritz, who has no executive control over SASSA, the Minister informed that he has built capacity within his Ministry to deal with the volume of calls his office receives regarding SASSA.

“Load Shedding leaves people cold.”

Statement highlights:

  • After more than two decades in power we can now see what the national government is capable of delivering, it is delivering us an energy crisis.
  • The energy crisis destroys jobs, taking away job opportunities at a time where unemployment is already record high.
  • That’s why we had contingency plans in place, and was able to keep the lights on in Cape Town, when the rest of the country had load-shedding.

Member statement by:

Matlhodi Maseko MPP

“ANC government did not acknowledge the Western Cape Government’s plea to send in the SANDF to stabilise volatile situations in the province”

Statement highlights:

  • The ANC government is misappropriating funds instead of investing in job creation to alleviate poverty so that youth do not turn to drugs as an escape from their socio-economic status.
  • The women of South Africa need a dedicated commitment from national government to redress the plight of women.
