DA to conduct site visits at various sewerage leaking points along the Vaal Dam shoreline

Media Advisory:

Today Tuesday, 28 July 2015, James Letuka (MPL) and Councillor Johan Geyser will conduct site visits at various sewerage leaking points along the Vaal Dam shoreline.

The DA has repeatedly called on the municipality to do whatever it takes to stop sewerage leaks around the Vaal Dam that threaten this critical fresh water resource. We wrote to GOGTAH MEC Olly Mlamleli in May 2015 requesting her immediate intervention, but has once again failed to respond to this serious issue.

The DA will assess the situation along the Vaal Dam shoreline and brief the media on our next course of action.

The Vaal Dam is a critical fresh water source to South Africa’s economic heartland, Gauteng. The dam is of vital economic importance to many communities along its shoreline in the Free State.

The threat of raw sewerage seeping into the Vaal Dam threatens water security, the environment and most importantly the health and wellbeing of every single person dependent on the dam’s water.

Members of the media who wish to accompany the DA delegation can meet us at the assembly point as per details below.

Date: Tuesday, 28 July 2015

Time: 11:30

Venue: Deneysville Bowling Club, 15 Lake Street, Deneysville, Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Free State

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
