Learner Licences will empower matriculants and increase employability

By Palesa Mokholo DA Youth Interim Regional Chairperson:

Today, DA Provincial Leader John Moodey MPL, Gauteng South Regional Chairperson, Khume Ramulifho MPL, and I marched with DA Youth structures to the Department of Education to propose the rollout of learner licences to all matriculants.

The DA Youth believe this initiative will go a long way towards improving driver behaviour, and most importantly, increasing the employability of young people.

Access to opportunities comes in many forms and having manoeuvrability will allow youth to travel to post graduate training and learning, and even interviews.

The expense of obtaining a licence will mean that many youth, especially from poorer communities, are unable to take this step.

While the department has discussed this initiative for a while, they are yet to take action in this regard and we hope that this march will hasten the roll-out of this project.

Receiving a quality education is key to opening up opportunities for the young people of South Africa; however, this can only be truly beneficial if they are able to use this education to get a job.

Far too many youth leave school without being able to take a step up the ladder to building a life of success and prosperity.

We appeal to the department to implement this initiative and ensure that the matrics of today become the entrepreneurs, business people and workers of tomorrow.
