DA calls for transparency in tender for new medicine transport provider

By Dr Tutu Faleni (MPL), DA North West Health Spokesperson:

The Democratic Alliance in the North West will write to the MEC of Health Dr Magome Masike and urge him to provide more information about the newly appointed service provider responsible for transporting medication in the province.

It has come to the DA’s attention that trucks used by the previous service provider broke down frequently while on their way to health facilities.

The delays in the delivery of medication poses a serious health risk to patients. If medication remains in a stationary vehicle over a long period, the quality of the medication is compromised.

The DA requests that MEC Masike provides more information regarding the newly appointed transport company; and also provides further information regarding the service level agreement in this appointment.

The tender process of appointing service providers must be transparent and

information should be made available to the public on request.

The Department of Health should ensure that the Service Level Agreement leaves no room for delays in the delivery of medication.
