DA extends condolences to families of pupils who burned to death at school

By Dr Tutu Faleni, DA Spokesperson Education:

The Democratic Alliance in North West extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the three pupils who were killed when the North West School for the Deaf in Leeudoringstad dormitory caught fire in the early hours of this morning.

Thirty four other pupils got injured when they jumped from a building while others suffer from smoke inhalation.

This tragedy comes shortly while the school is mourning after the death of assistant teacher, Thabo Batshe and two other pupils Neo Lekalakala and Kamogelo Mokowe who passed away in an accident on the Sunday 2 August 2015. It appears as if the driver of the minibus they were travelling in allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

The DA will write the Education MEC Me Wendy Matsemela urging her to immediately institute an investigation into the matter. I will also visit the school later this afternoon and meet with the families of the affected pupils.
