By Sizwe Mchunu, MPL, Leader of the DA in the KZN Legislature:
THE DA has called on KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu, to report back to the province’s Office of the Premier portfolio committee without delay regarding ongoing allegations surrounding suspended spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya.
The call comes after claims last year of Sibiya’s supposed involvement in a plot to sabotage the Premier which led to his suspension. According to reports, Sibiya is still earning R1 million per annum while sitting at home.
This was followed by a weekend expose by the DA around alleged outstanding payments worth R2.3million to a Durban businessman. The work was done at Sibiya’s instruction.
The DA is disappointed by the lack of urgency surrounding both these matters.
In terms of the earlier allegations of sabotage, we would have expected an investigation to have been completed by now.
With regard to the fresh allegations of procurement mismanagement, we are yet to receive any response from the Premier despite having written to him two weeks ago, informing him of the matter.
The continued allegations against this particular individual are damaging to the Office of the Premier in KZN.
It is important that a probe is concluded so that this individual can either clear his name or face the consequences.
The Premier must provide clarity around this ongoing saga in order to save the reputation of his own Office.
